The christening of Emerald Cruises' latest vessel, the Emerald Sakara, in Puerto Rico, marked a momentous occasion for the cruise industry. The ceremony, held at San Juan's cruise port on December 2, was officiated by Kelly Craighead, President of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The event garnered attention from travel agents, trade partners, and media, creating a lively atmosphere complemented by live music.

Kelly Craighead, also serving as CLIA's Chief Executive, played a central role in the ceremony, breaking a bottle of champagne against the hull of the luxury yacht. The presence of notable figures such as Glen Moroney, owner of the Scenic Group, and Ken Muskat, US Managing Director, added significance to the occasion. Moroney highlighted the importance of having Craighead as the godmother of the Emerald Sakara, acknowledging her can-do attitude, leadership, and inspirational guidance, particularly during the challenges faced by the industry.

The Scenic Group's distinctive approach to the cruise industry, intimately involved in all aspects of the shipbuilding process, was underscored by Moroney. From conceptualization and design to engineering oversight, in-house interior design, and the direct employment of all crew members, this approach distinguishes the group in the industry landscape.

Accommodating 100 guests in 50 staterooms and suites, with 44 featuring walk-out balconies, the Emerald Sakara offers a luxurious experience. The vessel, manned by a dedicated staff of 76 crew members, boasts an array of amenities, including an open-air infinity pool, a spa and gym, a restaurant serving seasonal cuisine, and the Amici Lounge—a bar featuring live music. A marina platform located off the stern provides additional recreational options, including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, snorkel equipment, seabobs, and a trampoline for guests' enjoyment.

Having made its debut in August, the Emerald Sakara is currently exploring the Caribbean and Central America until March 2024. The christening event not only marked a significant milestone for Emerald Cruises but also served as a testament to the resilience and vibrancy of the cruise industry. As it adapts to challenges and introduces new additions to its fleet, the industry continues to showcase its enduring appeal and commitment to delivering exceptional experiences for travelers.
