San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport has achieved a significant milestone with air passenger traffic surpassing 11 million for the year, as revealed by recently released data from ASUR, the entity managing the airport. The reported figures indicate a notable 19.1 percent increase in passenger traffic during the first 11 months of this year compared to the same period in 2022, where traffic stood at 9.31 million.

November, in particular, contributed to this upward trajectory, witnessing robust passenger traffic of 956,505—a substantial 10.4 percent increase over the corresponding period in the previous year. Notably, domestic passenger traffic, which typically constitutes a smaller percentage in Puerto Rico, experienced a noteworthy surge, nearing 100,000 last month and marking a significant 27.8 percent increase compared to the same period in the prior year.

The surge in international traffic is a noteworthy factor, witnessing a remarkable 42.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. This boost can be attributed to expanded services from carriers like Spain's Iberia and the growing traffic from the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

ASUR, managing both San Juan's airport and Cancun International Airport, oversees these vital air travel hubs as part of its comprehensive portfolio of regional airports. The increased passenger traffic underscores the resilience and recovery of the aviation sector, reflecting the renewed confidence and demand for air travel, particularly in key regional destinations like San Juan. The positive trend in passenger numbers not only signifies a robust rebound but also positions the airport as a vital gateway facilitating increased connectivity and tourism in Puerto Rico.
