In a seismic event on Thursday afternoon, parts of central Mexico experienced an earthquake that prompted the evacuation of buildings in the capital city and raised concerns among residents in this earthquake-prone region. However, as of now, there have been no immediate reports of damages.

The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 5.8, originated in the central state of Puebla, situated to the south of Mexico City, with its epicenter recorded at a depth of 27 miles (44 km), according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Mexico City Mayor Marti Batres took to social media to reassure the public, stating that there were no immediate reports of damage in the capital. Similarly, the governor of Puebla confirmed that there were no reports of damages in the state.

Throughout Mexico City, earthquake alarms blared, prompting residents to swiftly exit buildings and homes. The seismic event raised concerns, particularly in a country accustomed to the threat of earthquakes.

Manuel Maldonado, who was driving in the central Anzures neighborhood of the capital, described the experience of the earthquake alarm and its impact on traffic. He emphasized the strength of the quake, noting that it was forceful enough to move his car.

As seismic activity is a common occurrence in this region, residents remain vigilant, and the prompt response to alarms underscores the preparedness ingrained in the population. While there have been no immediate reports of damage, authorities and residents will likely remain on alert as they assess the aftermath of the earthquake.
